Après trois albums étonnants avec black midi, dont le plus récent est 'Hellfire' (2023), et des tournées mondiales quasi ininterrompues pendant près de cinq ans, Geordie Greep (guitariste et chanteur de black midi)  a trouvé le temps d'enregistrer son premier album solo 'The New Sound', un album qui lui a permis d'explorer des idées créatives comme jamais auparavant.

Le premier album solo de Geordie affiche une forme de pop alternative ludique, ambitieuse et de haute volée, comme on n’en avait pas entendu depuis longtemps, oscillant avec une aisance déconcertante entre le ridicule et le génie.

La manière dont le disque a vu le jour a de quoi fasciner. Plus de trente musiciens de session ont participé à son élaboration, sur deux continents. L’esprit des soliloques de Greep, de plus en plus fébriles et insaisissables, évoque à la fois Frank Zappa et Frank Sinatra, avec une bonne dose de Scott Walker en filigrane.
